Founded on Veteran’s Day 2009, Gendarme du Vin is meant to be a wine-oriented blog started by a US Army infantryman named SPC Kurtiss Erickson. Prior to his enlistment in the Army in 2009, Erickson was a wine industry professional for 5+ years working as a commercial winemaker and wine retailer.

In response to many of his Army buddies asking for a reliable, accurate source of wine knowledge, reviews, and food & wine pairings he decided to take action to provide that service.

In the coming weeks and months, look for a steady stream of posts, reviews, and content to fill this site with useful information. As it grows and becomes more public please spread its existence via all methods of media from word of mouth, to email, search engine results, and online networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

Feel free to leave comments, contribute your own reviews and content, and make suggestions to make the site more effective.

I intend to include links to many popular wine industry sites as well as multiple military sites that provide support to soldiers, veterans and their families.

    Wish me luck!

And to all US military personnel and veterans, I wish to extend my sincere thanks for your service and sacrifice. The freedoms most Americans take for granted still require and will always require young men and women of conviction willing to stand up and defend them. I am proud to have joined the ranks of those defending our great nation. On this Veteran’s Day 2009, rejoice in our victories, mourn our losses, and respect the courage shown throughout our history by those who have answered the call to duty.

Yes indeed, those links are active. I understand your scepticism, trust me. But what you don’t know is that soldiers do have a good deal of downtime when they’re not in the field. I may not always be able to make consistent weekly posts when I’m in the field and especially when I’m deployed, but I want to have a good time with this little venture. It will take a significant amount of effort to get the website up and running smoothly. That I can do during November and December and once I rotate back into an infantry unit I’ll keep up with it as I can. If I do it well, over time, it may grow into something truly worthwhile. It will certainly be a learning process and if I can get some regular, or even sporadic, contributors it could help run itself.
